The Olympics
The teams have now been chosen for our Olympic week in June.
The Olympic Motivators made name cards for every child and then drew them out and put them into one of the six countries we have selected.
This week, we have also been looking after the two Olympic mascots: Wenlock and Mandeville. They are visiting all the Primary Schools in Royton before the end of the year. Look at the photos to see what they have been up to so far at St. Paul's.

We are the Olympic motivators: Molly Smithies, Alice Piggott, Megan Marlor, Kathryn Scott, Robert Berry, Matthew Berry, Alec Leedale and Myles Edmondson.
At St. Paul’s we have selected eight Olympic Motivators. They have been busy planning an Olympic week, starting on 25th June (which is National School Sport Week). During this week, all of the children in school will represent a country and take part in five Olympic or Paralympic sports. Each class will also adopt one of the seven Olympic values and will use this as an inspiration for art work.
On Wednesday 7th March 2012, we launched our Olympic celebrations. The Olympic Motivators created a PowerPoint presentation covering the history of the Olympics and Paralympics and informing everyone about the nations and sports happening in London later this year. The children presented this to the whole school and were then presented with Olympic badges to show that they are official Olympic Ambassadors.
They then handed over to our visitor; a Paralympic athlete named Josie Cichockyj. Josie is a wheelchair athlete who has competed in the Paralympics, the World Championships, the European Championships and the London Marathon. She talked to the children about how she became an athlete and what she had achieved during her career. She also became a wheelchair basketball player and she now continues to coach. The children loved listening to Josie as she told her stories. She was very entertaining and the whole school were regularly roaring with laughter! One member of staff cried with laughter so much that she needed to reapply her make up afterwards!!! After the talk one of the children commented that Josie was funnier than Michael McIntyre and another said “that’s the most exciting thing that I’ve seen in my life”!!!! Josie stayed for the morning and showed the children her medals and spent the whole of the lunch break signing autographs for everyone in school.
We are going to hold an Olympic week including Sport events, an opening ceremony and a closing ceremony. The sports we are holding are from the Olympics and there are a few from the Paralympics they are: football, athletics, volleyball, badminton and boccia. The Year 5 motivators have been working on a PowerPoint to show in assembly. The motivators from Year 4 are going to help show it. On Wednesday 7th March there will be the assembly to launch our Olympic event.
